The Lord tries the hearts.

Proverbs. 17:3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord tries the hearts.
There were silver smiths, gold smiths, and metal smiths within their communities. It tells us in Psalm 12:6 the word of God is like silver which is tested in the furnace seven times. As the metal liquefies at a high temperature a solvent like alkali was added to remove the dross. The dross is the scum which separates from the metal at high temperature also known as impurities When this process was repeated a number of times the metal was made pure.
Sometimes we need to go through a testing time so that we will be stronger and things in our life are washed away by the cleansing power of the blood of the Lamb of God, so we will be the Holy people He wants us to be. What our God wants is committed Christians, who are doers of the word, not just church goers.
When the Prophet Samuel went to choose a new King to replace King Saul, God sent him to the family of Jesse the Beth-lehemite to choose a new king from the sons of Jesse. At first the Prophet thought it was one of the elder sons to be the new king, but God spoke to him and said:
1 Sam 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.
Prayer: Our Father God ,we thank you for showing us that you choose more perfectly then any metal smith, and we want to glorify you in our lives and do what is pleasing in your sight, that your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
