Living in the Overlap of Two Worlds

Living in the Overlap of Two Worlds

Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” (Luke:11 v 2)

“So, Moses, are you saying that we will never sin again?” a guy from the group asked.

“No,” Moses kindly answered, “I am saying that Jesus will never sin. And He is now living in you, and will show Himself through you as you stand in Grace.

That sounds wonderful,” another replied. “But how does it work?”

Let me put it this way,” Moses answered. “Did you ever notice that the first thing Jesus said when He went public with His ministry was,Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand?’”

Yes,” we all replied.

But then later He told His disciples to pray,Thy Kingdom come.’ So, let me ask — which is it? Is the Kingdom here, or is it yet to come?

We stared in silence.

Moses then said, “Friends, it is BOTH!”

When Jesus came to this earth He brought the Kingdom of God with Him, as an invasion into a fallen world. Day by day, miracle by miracle, person by person, sermon by sermon – He began spreading the redeeming influence of His Kingdom. He went about doing good, healing all who were overpowered by the devil, for God was with Him.

After He rose from the dead and ascended into glory, He sent forth His Holy Spirit and filled His people with His presence and power that we might follow in His steps and continue His mission. Living as He lived, and doing as He did.

And when He returns again, He will bring the Kingdom in it fullness. God’s will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven — completely! So the Kingdom is here, and it is yet to come.

Until That Day, we live in the overlap of two Worlds. One, is the Fallen World which resulted when Sin entered; and with Sin, Death came. The other is The Risen World, which came about when Jesus conquered Sin and Death, and included us in His conquest.

We now live in both worlds at the same time. And that is why we have experiences that seem to contradict one another. One day is filled with glory; the next is filled with grief. One day we have victory; the next day, defeat. One day our prayers work with power; the next they seem to fall dead to the ground. One day we triumph in temptation; the next we falter and sin.

Nevertheless! Because Christ is in us, the power of His presence – His Grace – now lifts us above the claims of this lesser world. What I am saying is that you longer have to sin – as though there were no choice. You have been freed from the chains that held you as slaves to sin, and now you can yield yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead!

Where you once were slaves to sin, and doomed to live in perpetual unrighteousness, now you are forgiven, free, and filled with the Spirit of God. You can live a truly righteous life – even in an unrighteous world! And that is why Paul wrote,Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under Law, but under Grace!

When you humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God – especially in the face of overpowering trials and temptations – God gives His grace in abundance. And, where sin did abound; Grace does much more abound! And while you may not be able to handle the challenge by yourself – you are no longer left to yourself to do so. Christ is in you, and He can handle it through you!

God will not permit you to be tested above what you are able to bear, and with the trial He will also provide a way of escape so that you may bear the moment in victory. The way of escape which God has provided is GRACE – the empowering presence of God enabling you to be who He created you to be, and to do what He has called you to do – right where you are!

Thus it is written, “Let us come boldly to the Throne of Grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help us in our time of need!”

“Oh, give God praise for His amazing grace!” Moses cried out, with triumph in his voice and glory on his face.

By this time a great crowd had gathered at the Pavilion of Praise, and we all began to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

It was truly awesome.

THE LAW OF THE LORD IS PERFECT

The Law of the Lord is Perfect

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple”
(Psalm: 19 v 7).

The Law of the Lord is perfect,” Moses began, “but it was put into the hands of imperfect men — beginning with me.”

He paused for a moment of personal reflection, unable to mask the pain in his heart as he recalled that unforgettable moment.

“When I came down from the Mountain and saw the people worshipping a Golden Calf, I threw the Tablets in anger and they broke. I didn’t realize at the time how profoundly symbolic that moment was for us all. Even before we actually received The Law — we broke it. We were guilty…and doomed.

“But God was merciful and gave us a second set of Tablets. Yet, the more we tried to obey The Law – the more we realized how powerless we were to do so. At length, that which was pure and perfect became a thing that condemned us in our fallen state. We knew all too well that we were wicked; but our anguish was multiplied by the deeper knowledge that we were also powerless to change ourselves!

Can a leopard change his spots? How then can we do good, who are accustomed to doing evil? And what is  worse, even when we do a good thing, it becomes defiled by pride in our own our self-righteousness.

We were a stubborn and stiff-necked people; resisting God every step of the way. At one point He offered to send us on ahead without Him. He said an angel would go with us, but not Him. “NO!” I cried out. For if Your presence not go with us how shall it be known that we have found grace in your sight? What else will distinguish us from all other peoples on the face of the earth?” (Exo:33v1-16)

He did go with us! And over time we began to see that, like a School Master – true and unyielding in the administering of truth and wisdom – The Law was actually moving us forward to a time when the Law Giver would actually come and live inside each one of us as The Law Keeper!

And thus when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem us!” (Gal:4v4) Christ in you is the hope of glory! For this reason we affirm boldly that sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace!” (Rom:6v14

Yes, “the power of Christ to do God’s will is with us – right where we are. And it is far greater than the power of sin! For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Rom:8v3-4).

“And the fruit which The Spirit produces in our lives is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, and self-control. Against such things there is no Law!

Yes, God gave me the tablets written on Stone. But when One came who is far greater than me, Jesus the Son of God — God wrote His Law on the tablets of our hearts. And now Christ lives in us, empowering us to live out in our daily lives the righteousness of the Law by His Grace!! And this is what now distinguishes you from all the peoples on the face of the earth. It is His grace – the power of His presence in you!

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (Rom:8v1-2)

The question then is this. Will we continue to live in the power of the flesh, or by the power of the Spirit? With carnal minds, or with spiritual minds? For to be carnal-minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

And I am persuaded of better things concerning you my friends. For I can see that you have journeyed to this place called Grace on purpose.

I can see in you what is true of all who love the Lord – you have embraced The Cross as your own! You have been raised from the dead to walk in newness of life! You are being filled with the Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, and He is quickening you to walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power – His Amazing Grace!!!” (see Col:1v10-11).

Moses’ face began to shine with such glory that we almost had to avert our eyes. It was beautiful beyond description.

The Holy Spirit Giving Life

The Holy Spirit Giving Life

It is the Spirit who gives life . . . [God] also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life."  (John_6:63 and 2Cor_3:6)
The Lord's new covenant of grace is a covenant of the Spirit:
" [God] also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant . . . of the Spirit." Any approach to God other than by the Spirit results in spiritual deadness.

People need life, initially and continually. We need it initially, because all of us began spiritually dead due to our sin and guilt. "And you . . . were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh . . . and were by nature children of wrath" (Eph_2:1-3).

The only remedy for such spiritual death is spiritual life. "But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)
(Eph_2:4-5).

People also need life continually, "for the letter kills."
If we were left to our best efforts after we were given new life in Christ, we would be struggling under a human performance bondage of rules and regulations. That is spiritually deadening.
Jesus came to earth to offer people fullness of life. "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John_10:10). Jesus taught that if we looked to Him for our spiritual nutrition, we would find ongoing life. "And Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life'" (John:6v35).

Jesus did not refer to Himself as a leader establishing a new religion. Rather, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life' " (John:14v6). When the early disciples were freed from prison, they were not told to recruit members to a movement. Instead, they were instructed to "Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life" (Act:5v20).
The life Jesus came to provide is His life expressed in and through us: "Christ who is our life" (Col:3v4). That life produces a lifestyle marked by His love, His joy, His peace, His wisdom, His courage - - and whatever else is of His holy character. The new covenant of His grace holds forth this life, and the Holy Spirit delivers that life into humble, trusting hearts. "It is the Spirit who gives life."

Lord Jesus,You are my life. I have no other hope or source for finding true life. I praise You for Your patience with me when I try to produce a Christlike life by rules and regulations. Lord, just as You gave me life initially, please flood me now with new measures of Your life, as I humbly rely upon Your Spirit, Amen.

Kings die; Jesus lives.

 a Call to Heroic Service

{Isaiah_6:1-13}

Kings die; Jesus lives. [See John: 12 v 41]. We are here reminded of [Act: 22 v 17-18]. How great the contrast between the worship of these seraphim in the Unseen-Holy and man’s perfunctory rites!
Six wings-two for meditation, two for humility, and two for service. Service should take only a third of our energy

One cried unto another-one inspired spirit will awaken others. The threefold repetition of the word holy, implies the Trinity. If door-posts tremble, much more should the hearts of sinful men! Isaiah, in the previous chapter, had uttered six woes against others, but his seventh and sorest woe is against himself. The sinner, like the leper, cries, Unclean! [Leviticus: 13 v 45. The seraph did not wait to be told; he knew that there was only one cure for such need as the prophet’s, [Isaiah: 6 : 9-13]. When men refuse God’s offered grace, every refusal hardens. It is either “the savour of death unto death” or of “life unto life,” [2Corinthians: 2 v  16]

The life of the Oak and the Terebinth* only seems to become extinct in winter; there is revival in the spring. Is it winter with you? Pray for the springtime!

The Lord tries the hearts!

The Lord tries the hearts.

John Francis

Back to the Bible daily by disciple John

Proverbs. 17:3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord tries the hearts.

There were silver smiths, gold smiths, and metal smiths within their communities. It tells us in Psalm 12:6 the word of God is like silver which is tested in the furnace seven times. As the metal liquefies at a high temperature a solvent like alkali was added to remove the dross. The dross is the scum which separates from the metal at high temperature also known as impurities When this process was repeated a number of times the metal was made pure.

Sometimes we need to go through a testing time so that we will be stronger and things in our life are washed away by the cleansing power of the blood of the Lamb of God, so we will be the Holy people He wants us to be. What our God wants is committed Christians, who are doers of the word, not just church goers.

When the Prophet Samuel went to choose a new King to replace King Saul, God sent him to the family of Jesse the Beth-lehemite to choose a new king from the sons of Jesse. At first the Prophet thought it was one of the elder sons to be the new king, but God spoke to him and said:

1 Sam 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

Prayer: Our Father God ,we thank you for showing us that you choose more perfectly then any metal smith, and we want to glorify you in our lives and do what is pleasing in your sight, that your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Bill Johnson - How to Deal with Loss

Bill Johnson - How to Deal with Loss

This is why I like Bill Johnson. He has enough integrity to tell it like it is. We all deal with losing some battles or not being able to believe for someones healing. We must face it honestly without putting your head in some fluffy cloud of hyper faith super-spirituality where we deceive ourselves into thinking something has happened in the "spirit" realm when nothing has changed. I'm especially talking about ministering over weeks and seeing no change. Pain is an easy one to use as an example. If the pain hasn't changed or gone when you are telling it to go, then be courageous enough to face the fact that you just may have not been believing like you thought you were. Sure it could go away later, but we must believe for it to go when we minister or else how can we even begin to help people if we aren't expecting a sign there and then. We need to see results! That's what Jesus got and He said we can do EXACTLY the same as Him. We ARE allowed to be honest and face the fact that sometimes our faith wasn't able to get the result we were believing for. Jesus said these SIGNS WILL follow them that believe. A sign is something we get to see here in the natural realm. That's why it's called a sign. We get to SEE God at work amidst us. My encouragement is for us to believe for Jesus to continue His work through us, just as He did when He walked the earth.

Once More on Grace and Spiritual Fruit

Once More on Grace and Spiritual Fruit

He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit the fruit of the Spirit is love,joy,peace,long-suffering(Gal5:22-23 Phi1:11)

As the Holy Spirit works the grace of God in our hearts, the various aspects of spiritual fruit are manifested through us. "The fruit of the Spirit is  . . . kindness." Kindness is moral goodness and integrity conveyed toward others. It includes showing concern and consideration to people, desiring not to offend them. "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another" (Eph_4:31-32).
"The fruit of the Spirit is  . . .  goodness." Goodness is quite similar to the preceding term, kindness. The additional perspectives contained in goodness would be acts of generosity and beneficence. This somewhat repetitious concept indicates the high priority that God places upon our treatment of others.
"The fruit of the Spirit is  . . . faithfulness." Faithfulness embodies responsibility and loyalty. It also comprises reliability and consistency. "Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful" (1Co_4:2).
"The fruit of the Spirit is  . . . gentleness." Gentleness is explained by such terms as meekness and lowliness. Such quality of character takes on special significance when we recall these words of Jesus. "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Mat_11:29).
"The fruit of the Spirit is  . . . self-control." Self-control is a fascinating subject, because it is not what it seems to be at first. Natural human thinking would assume it refers to self keeping self under control. Such a description would have to be listed under the previous verses pertaining to "the works of the flesh" (Gal_5:19). Here, it describes the Spirit of God maintaining control over our lives.
When we reflect upon the fruit of the Spirit, the character of Christ typically comes to mind. This is appropriate, since godly fruit comes to us through the presence of Jesus in our lives. "Being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God." When we depend upon the Holy Spirit, He imparts the life of Jesus, our true vine, into and through our experience. The character of Christ is then seen in us. Consequently, all glory and praise goes to God!

Dear Lord Jesus, how I long to be more like You. I can easily be selfish, inconsistent, or out of control. I see that  only Your Holy Spirit working in me can bring the necessary fruit. Lord, I pray, work deeply in me by Your irreplaceable grace, for Your glory and praise, Amen.
